Autumn Olive


The Autumn Olive Tree, `Elaeagnus umbellate,' produces small (less than a quarter inch), fleshy fruits that will range in color from pink to red. The fruits are finely dotted with pale scales, and are produced in abundance yearly. This plant grows as a medium sized tree or large shrub, and can reach height of over twenty feet. Its leaves are dark green to grayish-green on their upper surfaces, while the lower surface is covered with silvery white scales. This conspicuous characteristic of the Autumn Olive tree can be seen from a distance as the leaves flutter in the wind.
