Annuals: Vegetables

Black Beauty Eggplant

The Eggplant Black Beauty, `Solanum melongena,' grows to two feet or more in height. The fruits produced are broad and egg-shaped with a dark purple skin. The large and spreading nature of the plants allows them to produce six to twelve fruits per plant. Growing well in most areas, these eggplants are a very international vegetable. The fruits will not set, however, if nighttime temperatures drop below sixty degrees. Eggplants prefer rich, deep and loose soils with high amounts of organic matter. The soil should be watered weekly if there is no rain.
