The Fennel Bronze, `Foeniculum vulgare,' is a hard to find variety that is often used mainly for its ornamental value and its tasty foliage and seeds. It produces beautiful, purple feathery plumes that will provide a lace contrast in any vegetable or flower garden. Its fresh leaves can be sprinkled on salads or used to make salad dressings. The seeds should be planted two weeks before the last average frost date. They grow best in consistently moist, well draining, sandy soils with lots of organic matter.
