The California Poppy Orange, `Eschscholzia californica,' is a perennial flower that is most often grown as an annual. The bright orange, saucer shaped flower is the state flower of California. The foliage of this plant will often overwinter in zones seven through eleven. The two to three inch flowers have four delicate petals each. Commonly used as a cut flower or in the prevention of soil erosion, the seed of an Orange Poppy should be planted in the fall of warmer climates for impressive spring color.
