Trees: Other Trees

Canadian Hemlock

The Canadian Hemlock Tree, `Tsuga canadensis,' is a fast-growing, long-lived evergreen conifer. Unlike many other types of trees, this one will grow well in the shade. Often living to over eight hundred years, the Canadian Hemlock will not reach maturity until almost three hundred years. Young trees should be sheltered from heavy winds. These graceful, ornamental trees will tolerate shearing and pruning, and can make excellent hedges. This tree is also known as the Eastern Hemlock or the Hemlock Spruce.
