Caraway

The Caraway, `Carum carvi,' is a wonderful herb in that all parts of the plant can be used in cooking. The seeds have a nutty flavor, resembling a combination of dill and anise, and are commonly used in breads, soups, stews and other dishes. Its leaves can be used fresh either whole or minced in lettuce and fruit salads. The roots, chopped, steamed or pureed, are often found in soups or stews. They can even be sliced thinly and eaten raw. Popcorn tastes wonderful when ground up fresh seeds are sprinkled over it. Caraway will grow best in an area with a well drained soil.
