Chinese Garlic Chives


The Chives Chinese Garlic, Jiu Cai Gau Choy, `Allium tuberosum,' can be grown in containers and even grown indoors. Its leaves, flower buds and flowers all have a delightful, mild garlic flavor. When the plants are young, they have a slight onion, honey-like garlic flavor. The plants will grow to eighteen inches in height and have flat leaves that are ten to eighteen inches long. The seeds should be planted in the spring as soon as the soil can be worked, or two months before the first fall frost. They prefer a rich, well draining soil.
