Shrubs: Lilac

Chinese Lilac

The Chinese Lilac, `Syringa Chinensis,' will produce a wonderful floral display in early May, with its lilac-purple flower clusters. The flowers are grown in four to five inch panicles after the foliage emerges. Its fragrant flowers bloom profusely and will cover most of the plant. This is a large, round-headed shrub that can be used either as a single specimen planting or a background border or screen plant. Pruning after the flowering period will provide the best landscape effect, and pruning to remove a few of the older branches each year will help to keep the plant full to its base.
