Perennials: Clematis

Ernest Markham Clematis

The Clematis Ernest Markham, `Viticella x group,' features dark red magenta blooms that flower in July. The large, upright plants range in height from twelve to fifteen feet with a spread of three feet. Their foliage is dark green, and will make a great contrast with the boldly colored flowers. The tops of the plants prefer full sunlight, while the roots require a cool, shady area. For this reason, it is best to heavily mulch the ground around these plants.
