Ground Covers: Liriope

Liriope

The Liriope, `Liriope muscari,' is often called by is common name of border grass. Despite this name, it is not a member of the grass family at all, and is in fact a lily. This gives it its other common names of Lillyturf or Blue Lillyturf. Its dark green, ribbon like foliage can reach a length of twelve to eighteen inches, then curves down towards the ground. This plant will grow almost everywhere, and can survive a number of different situations. This perennial should be sheared back in the early spring months to encourage a flush of new growth.
