Little Bluestem Grass


The Grass Little Bluestem, `Schizachyrium scoparium,' is a prairie grass native to North America. Also called Sagegrass or Beard grass, this plant can reach a height of three to four feet with the bluish tinted foliage. The leaves turn a rich orange wheat color in the fall months. The flowers grow scattered along the upper parts of the stem branches, where the long hairs create a feathery appearance. Each stalk grows a single, white hairy flower cluster at its tip.
