Nest Egg Ornamental Gourd

The Gourd Ornamental Nest Egg, `Cucurbita pepo var. ovifera,' is a hard-shelled gourd that has a very similar size and shape to a hen's egg. This gourd is commonly used as a decorative egg in baskets and Easter arrangements. Once cured, the gourd can be painted and will last an indefinite amount of time as a decoration. They can be arranged in a gourd bowl, painted as Easter eggs, or make into a unique tea ball. Gourds should be kept evenly moist throughout the season, and at the end they should be kept somewhat drier. Hard-shelled gourds should always be kept on the vines as long as there is life left.
