Shrubs: Ninebark

Nugget Ninebark

The Nugget Ninebark, `Physocarpus opulifolius,' has deep, golden yellow foliage with a hint of bronze on its new growth. This dense, compact shrub is quick to establish, and will produce a bush of low to medium size and texture. The golden yellow new growth will fade to a lime green at maturity. Once mature, its branches are dark brown and have peeling bark for winter interest. The white flowers are not extremely showy. The fruit is very persistent and a reddish brown in color. In the fall, the foliage is a deep bronze color, and will last for several weeks.
