Trees: Redbud

Oklahoma Redbud

The Oklahoma Redbud Tree, `Cercis reniformis,' was discovered in 1964, growing wild in the Arbuckle Mountains of Okalhoma. It features glossy green foliage and produces clusters of tine, wine-red, pea-like flowers that will bloom profusely on the branches and mature trunks for about two to three weeks in early spring, before the leaves emerge. It is the perfect small tree for lawns, woodland gardens or naturalized areas, as should be planted in partial shade in hot climates.
