Ponderosa Pine


The Ponderosa Pine, `Pinus ponderosa,' is a very drought resistant tree once it is established. It can grow on most soils, including sites with little topsoil and very sandy soils. Starting with a two-year-old seedling, the Ponderosa Pine can grow to a height of six feet in a little as six years with the proper care. This is an evergreen conifer that will thrive in full sunlight and poor soils, and is one of the tallest and most important timber pines in the western United States. This tall and stately tree is commonly used in windbreaks.
