Prairie Coneflower Echinacea

The Echinacea Prairie Coneflower, `Echinacea angustifolia,' is commonly used for its suspected medicinal value. This is a more potent, narrow leaf species of Purple Coneflower, and is used by Native Americans to treat snakebites and other maladies. This wildflower is native to North America and is very easy to care for. It has a relatively long blooming period, which lasts from one to two months. The seeds should be planted in the early spring, about three to four weeks before the last average frost date, or as late a two months before the first frost in the fall. These plants make excellent borders or cut flowers.
