The Purple Leaf Sandcherry, `Prunus cistena,' will produce its bright red, three-inch leaves in the spring. This is a thick-growing and long-lived shrub. Its blushing white flowers appear in May, and look fantastic among the red foliage. Purple-black cherries are produced in the autumn, and its foliage will change to a fantastic reddish-purple color. The Purple Leaf Sandcherry will make a wonderful standout specimen shrub, and can also be implemented in a lovely hedge.
