Red Leaf Japanese Barberrt


The Barberry Red Leaf Japanese, `Berberis thunbergii,' features slender, spiny and small branches with roundly oval leaves that are a deep red to purple color. This deciduous shrub can reach up to two feet in height with a spread of almost three feet. Its small yellow flowers are not showy and are present from April to May beneath the leaves. Although tolerant of many types of soil, the Barberry bush will not grow well in excessively wet locations. This plant makes an excellent hedge or filler shrub.
