Spring Bulbs: Caladium

Rose Bud Caladium

The Caladium Rose Bud, `Caladium x hortulanum,' is a fancy foliaged plant with white leaves and green veins. This spring planted tuber is primarily grown for this colorful foliage, which is very long lasting. The plants also produce flowers, but these are insignificant and actually drain energy from the beautiful foliage. For this reason, any flowers should be pinched off as soon as possible. The plants are ideal for borders or beds, and can also be grown in pots or hanging baskets on a patio. They require a fair amount of shade for best growth and color. Caution is advised when planting around children, as all parts of this Caladium are poisonous.
