Trees: Crabapple

S.E. Wild Crabapple

The Southern Crabapple Tree, `Malus angustifolia,' is a small, deciduous tree that grows fast and will reach a mature height of thirty to thirty-five feet. Its deep pink buds open to light pink flowers that eventually fade to white. The flowers are fragrant in the spring and form into small green crabapples in the fall. These apples will be a good source of food for wildlife. Its green leaves will change to many different shades of red, orange and gold for a lovely display of fall color. It is also known as the wild crabapple or narrowleaf crabapple.
