Spearmint Mint

The Mint Spearmint, `Mentha spicata,' produces pale, pinkish purple flowers from mid to late summer. This hardy perennial has more uses than most other herbs. It can be used to make teas, as well as being used in cooking and baths. Mint tea is often used to help cure insomnia, and the leaves can be chewed to help prevent bad breath. Mint water is much more refreshing than any soft drink. This plant spreads quickly in the garden, and can become invasive if it is not controlled. The seeds should be planted in the spring in almost any kind of soil. Spearmint can also be grown in a pot or container.
