The Sweetgum Tree, `Liquidambar styraciflua,' features an upright, pyramidal growth when it is young, but will become more spread out, open and irregular as it matures. This is a rapid growing tree that is commonly grown for its excellent fall color, which is often a combination of green, yellow, red, orange and purple, but sometimes solid crimson, scarlet or burgundy. In the summer, its star-shaped, lustrous foliage is a dark green color. This is a very popular lawn tree for is fast growth, dense shade and spectacular color.
