Vines: Fallopia

Variegated Mountain Fleece

The Fallopia, `Fallopia japonica Variegata,' will reach a mature height of about four feet, and will spread to make larger clumps each year. For this reason, it must be pruned to confine in to a smaller area. This is a very colorful perennial that is perfect for brightening up a shady corner of the garden. Its new spring leaves emerge variegated pink and white, and will mature to a marbled white with green and pink highlights and red stems. It should be pruned back extensively each spring to maintain its form.
